36 area teams left alive...

... with at least nine more seasons to end tonight. Just a quick post before I head to the Timber Creek-Wilson game.

Apologies for the lateness of last night's post, especially if anybody was hoping to read it before they went to bed. I had just enough time to get home in time to see the 11 p.m. showing of Project Runway, and then I was all out GB mode so I didn't get around to the blog until like 1:30 a.m.

One commenter reminded me that Eustace played yesterday as well. I guess they were disappointed I didn't mention the game, but we had a reporter there and I didn't know what else to say about it. This has got to be Gloucester Catholic's toughest season in almost anyone's memory, and with the ties between that program and Eustace, I don't think that situation was probably very comfortable for anybody. Eustace is playing great right now and GC is just in a bad place, but the Rams will be back. One worrisome thing, though, is that the Trico is going to three divisions next year, meaning GC's schedule strength is likely to take a hit that could hurt the program long-term.

A couple other things that I did not mention out of haste last night:

Congratulations to RV for its upset of South Brunswick, especially to Chelsea Cole for her 31-point performance. It's hard to know just how much of an upset that it, South Brunswick being an unknown quantity around here, but the Red Devils' next opponent, Hunterdon Central, is the sixth seed, so I guess seedings don't mean much up there in Central Jersey. It would be great to see RV get to a sectional final, and having seen Trenton Central play a couple times, I think they can take the hardware. Howell is the top seed, but I don't know anything about them.

I was glad to see that Casey Orlando scored two points for Heights because that means the rumors of a revised diagnosis must have been true. Hopefully the Garnets will be at full strength for West Tech.

Word is that Brazyl Richardson sat out for Collingswood due to illness, wich was a tough break for the Colls. West Tech has some serious post presence, and I understand they killed on the offensive boards. I was happy to see that Lauren Gregg redeemed herself after a lackluster couple of weeks howeve, going out on a 24-point game. I'll see the Panthers on the lacrosse field.

It looks like I'll be at AC-East on Friday, with hopefully a colleague going out to see West Tech-Heights. I''ll try to figure out Saturday's plan after tonight's results are final.

That's all I've got time for. See you on the court.

What I'm listening to: Joni Mitchell... West Side Story... Radiohead... Suzanne Vega... Ash...

    LACKLUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!
Lauren Gregg was injured two weeks ago against Audubon. Lower back injury. She played with it against Sterling which only made it worse (and of course you said Cassi Bryant "shut her down"). Her first game since then was Monday againsta Buena where her coach limited her to 4 minutes. Where did you see her lackluster performance!!!!!!!!!!
    Tom Gregg

OK so maybe I shouldn't have mentioned her 24-point game against West Tech. Sorry about that.

I didn't know about the injury, but it kind of doesn't matter. The fact is that the team was missing her usual contribution the last couple of weeks, but she got it turned around in time to give them a chance to win.

As far as injury goes, lets not blame her injury for her performance. If you can't go out and be effective, stay on the sideline. Sounds like to me you're blaming her lack of effectiveness on her injury. That's just an excuse for the way she played.

Don't get me wrong, Lauren Gregg is a very talented player, one of the best in south jersey, but if she's hurt she needs to sit out. And if she decides to play, then she can't blame her bad performance on an injury. Period. I applaud cassi bryant. One of the conferences best offensive players held to 7 pts. i dont hear her complaining about only having 6 pts. that game.

I remember this game... my homie cassi had lauren on CLINK-CLINK... lock down. and her points weren't even scored off of creating her own shot, free throws and offensive put backs HAHA stop making excuses.
